Plan a valid method to investigate the effect of electrolyte concentration on voltage of chemical cell.

Use the following:

  • Metal electrodes

  • Water

  • Sodium Chloride solution

  • • Sodium Chloride solution as electrolyte

    • Two different metals as electrodes

    • Voltmeter to measure Voltage

Chemical cell setup using sodium chloride solution as electrolyte, two metals as electrodes and voltmeter to measure voltage.

  • Dilute the Sodium Chloride solution with water by:

    Measuring volumes of sodium chloride solution and water using measuring cylinder and mixing

Measuring cylinders with Water and Sodium Chloride used to dilute the electrolyte and produce different concentrations.

  • • Repeat at different concentrations of electrolyte solution

    • Measure voltage using Voltmeter

    Control Variables:

    • Use the same two metals each time

    • Use the same volume of electrolyte solution

Three trials of the experiment with different concentrations of Sodium Chloride electrolyte and control variables are overall volume of electrolyte and types of metal electrodes.
